Ok hair cuts aren't particularly expensive.
Around SGD12 at QB house. It could be cheaper at other places.
I cut around once every month.
So it's going to be SGD144 per year.
Anyway I first tried cutting my own hair just for the fun of it.
I bought one of those shavers which the barbers use. I bought it at SGD40. I've heard some places sell for SGD20 so I was pretty upset when I found out.
Cutting your own hair has a lot to do with feeling. I can shave the sides quite easily. But when it comes to giving myself a high slope on the back, it is pretty much all about feel. I'm quite good with my hands for arts and crafts so I can feel the slope quite easily so I just shave a bit then feel the slope then shave again.
I just shave the sides and back and don't cut my top so I tend to leave the top to grow til my hair gets long then I'll go to the barber for a short cut and start all over again. Ie, shaving the sides and back and letting the hair grow til it gets really long then go to the barber again.
As I said, I started doing this for fun. Then I realized how easy it is. So I continued doing it. I've been cutting my own hair for around 3 years already. I don't even remember how often I go to the barber for the short cut. I think maybe once every 6-9 months? I'm not sure.
So yea... it can be done. You can save some money here too. Kinda extreme though, even from my own point of view.
One thing to note is that I'm not too fussy with looks. I'm ok with the possibility that I mess up my own hair and I end up having to give myself an NSF haircut to clean up the mess.
