You see, I feel it's really strange.
People believe lies rather than the truth, people place more priority on what sounds nice or looks nice and do not bother to think too much and in the end the "bad" guy who is willing to make things sound nice, "wins".
Look at Donald Trump. He's lying all over. During his campaign, he made lots of promises that couldn't be kept. Still people voted for him.
Imagine, if a politician says, "We need to increase taxes to provide support for everyone in society."
VS
"We do not need to increase taxes and we can provide free education and medical to everyone."
Well the 2nd one really sounds more attractive.
OR
Look at weight management companies.
"You can lose weight by just lying on a bed for 1 hour and undergoing some breakthrough massage, you just need to sign on this dotted line and get this package for the affordable promotional price of $6,999."
VS
"There is only 1 reliable way to lose weight, you need to cut your food intake and exercise. Do you know how stupid it sounds when you think that you can just eat something (a pill) to lose something?"
OR
"You can get rich with this awesome investment which gives you 20% per annum. You can withdraw the money every quarter but you can only withdraw 25% at a time"
VS
"You need to spend less and save more, a reasonable low risk investment return rate would be around 5% per annum."
OR
"You only live once, get this car/bag/shoes/wallet, whatever, really you deserve to pamper yourself after all the work you have done."
VS
"Seriously, you don't need a bigger car for now, you have enough bags, shoes, whatever, you can buy this at another time."
The thing is, people like to hear what they want to hear, they like to see what they want to see. And in truth, most people would believe what they want to believe. So sales folks, politicians, crooks, whatever. They know about all this. And they are absolutely willing to use all these weaknesses to their advantage. It's rampant in this world, where people sell stuff to others, sure it's their decision to buy this or not, but somehow, people get influenced so easily.
And there are more folks that are irrational than there are people who are rational. Which I find totally scary and amusing at the same time. Cos since people are generally so easily manipulated, that means that someone of power can easily control large numbers of people with lies and tricks... (Donald Trump).
Or sales people can sell stuff which people don't need, it's called emotional selling.
(Google Emotional selling, there's many articles about it.)
Essentially, its like NLP (neurolinguistic programming), it taps into the humans' subconscious to trigger certain emotions which a human desires and by doing so, can lead a person to do stuff which they logically would not do.
And the worst thing is that it really works. People really use such techniques to manipulate people to buy stuff, buy more stuff, vote for people, it makes people pay more money for not so valuable stuff, etc. It's actually rampant in this society which we live in.
So yes, I'm feeling lost, cos I see so many people doing irrational things. Maybe I've also been influenced at times as well and I might not even know it. But I do fear for our future, as in generally, cos it's like if some dishonest people use these techniques to manipulate people and change the people in power.
We could end up in situations like Hitler, Chaiman Mao, Kim Jung Sung, Stalin, etc.
