We were just wandering around shopping and my wife saw a really cheap travel luggage. $30 for 24 inch luggage.
That's the medium sized one. Useful for 2 persons on a short trip.
We use a 28 inch luggage for 2 pax on a 5 to 7 day holiday.
The smaller one at 20 inches is typically only sufficient for 1 person on a business trip.
So our 20 inch luggage was getting battered and the skin is starting to peel off so she was looking out for a suitable luggage. Then she saw the nice 24 inch luggage at $30 and she said, "Hey let's get that. We need a 24 inch luggage. We can't use the 20 inch one anymore, cos it's all bashed up, and if you're following me on biz trips it's easier to pack in a 24 inch luggage anyway."
Ok sure. Sounds reasonable. $30 quite cheap for a hard case luggage anyway so... Went to pay for it.
Then as we were walking back to the car. I suddenly said, "Hey don't we already have a 24" luggage already? The grey blue one?..."
And she was, "Oh ya the Titanium one from the OCBC Titanium card..." -.-|||
So now... we have an additional 24" luggage with no real use cos it's an extra. We already had another 24" luggage in the storeroom already. I was careless, I was caught up in a cheap deal and didn't think too much about it. Cos we were looking for a replacement 20" luggage, and in my mind I was ready to buy a cheap 20" luggage. And when she saw the 24" luggage and mentioned we need to pack for both of us anyway, I just went along with the logic, without thinking that we already have 1 of each size at home. Mentally I had already decided that I was going to buy a cheap luggage already so it just seemed so reasonable to buy a bigger one for a cheap price.
Ok so some people find that buying luggage is lame cos I could get free ones from credit cards. I'm sure some readers may be wondering why I buy my luggage when I could get it free. Well, my rationale is this, I price a credit card application at $70-$100. If I apply for any credit card, I expect to get around that amount in return. With or without spending. So I'm pretty ok if a credit card asks me to spend $500 and I get a $70 return on it. But I know that I can buy a luggage at around $30. So to me, getting a free luggage isn't worth it. I rather just buy a luggage and look out for good credit cards to apply for and get $70-$100 for the application instead.
Cos if I apply for whatever card, I can't apply for that card again in the next 2 years. I'll keep it for 1 year then cancel it, then I need to wait for 1 more year before I can enjoy another credit card promo from that same card. Since I price a luggage at $30, it's just not worth "locking up" that card, when I could possibly wait for that same card to run a better promo and get a better return on it.
Oh well... so now I have another 24" luggage sitting around which I may or may not use. I'll surely use it someday, but as of now, it's considered an unnecessary purchase, so a bit sad.
