We think it's a good deal, or we have a voucher for somewhere and we go and eat or spend so that we can use the voucher... there's no real meaning to it... like duhz... how can we spend money to save money? To save money, we just shouldn't spend it. Simple as that...
Well, I had this very same experience yesterday.
So I have a voucher for a free crispy pork at Crystal Jade Dining at Vivo City.
So we ordered the below dishes...
We did not reject the starter dish as well...
Then there was the starter dish, I was amazed that that was free as well.
Fried rice was $19+. Enough for 4 bowls of rice.
There was a promo for the claypot pork ribs with liver at $19+.
Add another $2 for 2 glasses of water... WTH!!!
I forgot the actual prices, but the total charge was $48.60 after service and GST.
So we spent $48.60 for dinner, just to use up the voucher for free crispy pork...
And I was thinking... was this smart?... I could eat a lot better zichar for similar prices.
Ok, most places don't make the crispy pork this way, it's found in usually the more expensive restaurants. So that's the only plus point, cos it can't be found cheaply.
But for fried rice and pork ribs and liver... It was definitely an induced spending just to use up the voucher. And I felt a bit lame after doing it.
It was still an ok dinner, but I somehow felt stupid whilst doing it, cos I would never have gone to Crystal Jade to have dinner on any normal occasion, cos after they increased their prices, I felt that their value proposition dropped.
Anyway, I'm sure you guys have done similar things as well
So sometimes, I do wonder... is it a smart thing to do? Spending to save is not really saving. It's just spending slightly less.
