Many "investors" are/were traders who tried to trade the market to make some extra short term money.
I'm no different.
I've made some, lost some, on average, I probably made.
My best returns are probably just made passively. Sitting on high dividend stocks for some years. Easy, low risk, low volatility, I get good sleep.
My worst investments are when I try to execute some trading plan/pattern trading... I usually lose money.
So whenever someone talks about investments. How good they are, etc... I always take it with a pinch of salt. Many times, what we read online, financial bloggers, traders, whatever... you usually never see or hear the bad trades.
I really don't like to talk about investments. Cos it's so simple, yet so difficult.
So many people with differing views and needs and risk tolerances.
If someone hasn't lost sleep over their investments, then probably they aren't very experienced.
Cos it's like a rite of passage. The mistakes need to be made, money needs to be lost, and some people learn, some don't.
Some people conclude that they will do better with passive investment strategies, some believe they can beat the market. It's part of the learning process.
I'm not saying that active strategies don't work. They may and some people have learnt to make consistent profits just by reading charts.
What I'm trying to say is...
If you haven't had your heart broken, you've probably never really loved someone.
So in the case for investments...
If you haven't lost any money in investments, you're probably not very experienced.
But hey, that's just my opinion.
