I've lost weight and gained and lost multiple times in my life.
It's not that I don't know how to do it, I just can't be bothered.
Lowest weight 68kg, max weight ever 88kg...
Usually I'm somewhere in between.
Anyway, during those years when people see me lose weight there's many comments about how I can do it so fast, or when I gain weight people wonder why I gain weight just as quickly.
I'll just list down some comment and thoughts and responses which I've had through my experiences.
*Don't take any of these as weight loss advice, some of them may be dangerous or lead to gastric problems. I did my own research and managed my own meal/exercise/etc. What works for me might not work for you.*
"How do you lose weight so fast?"
"I just don't do anything..."
Explanation : This includes not eating. During a period, I cut my daily calorie count to 600. By doing this, I lost 1kg per week. 2 months, 8kg, everyone saw the difference.
"Just eat more vegetables"
"An elephant eats vegetables their whole life..."
Explanation : I don't know why people think eating vegetables is healthy or eating meat is unhealthy. A balanced diet is healthy. Eating more vegetables without any reduction in any other item doesn't change anything. The vegetables are just additional calories or nutrition.
"You can lose weight, just eat a light dinner or no dinner"
"Next time you see a poor person, if they only have money for 1 meal, tell them to eat dinner."
Explanation : Assuming the same number of calories consumed a day, the idea that eating a lighter dinner would be useful is pretty flawed. This basically means that it is more efficient for a poor person to eat a heavy dinner cos it would give him more total energy. No, that doesn't make sense.
"Don't worry you can eat these unhealthy food, you exercise regularly"
No response given.
Explanation : You can't out exercise a bad diet. Same like you can't out earn bad spending habits.
"Don't worry, you only eat this pizza once in awhile"
"That's what you said 2 days ago with the fried chicken and 2 days before that it was the char kway teow and..."
Explanation : The idea that eating something unhealthy rarely doesn't really hold up when you're planning to eat many different unhealthy things regularly. Basically, the person just said everything was a rare treat, but there's enough rare treats to cover all the days of a month.
Many people struggle with weight loss and many people want the secret formula.
I posted this before...
There is no real secret about the way in which most nations and individuals grow rich. They must save a good part of their income, and be wisely and profitably invested. The more you save and the more wisely you invest, the faster you get rich.
--Dr Goh Keng Swee
Similarly, there's no secret to weight loss. Prudent food intake and deliberate exercise.
And actually, everyone knows this, but few are willing to accept it.
They think that there's some other easy way to get rich or get fit.
Just by doing something easy... like betting on Bitcoin, or by eating this miracle pill.
Sometimes, it works, usually, it doesn't.
Think about it. How many people do you know who would like to lose weight or be healthier? A lot.
How many people actually achieve it? Very very few.
Most people just want an easy way out. To achieve their goals without any effort or sacrifice.
Same for getting wealthy, same for losing weight...
The fun part about weight loss is that there are so many beliefs and usually it's a light hearted topic, and I like answer silly things in response to many of these beliefs. Talk about finance and wealth accumulation and suddenly no one is interested... LOL
