Everyday, we walk out of our house, we dress... "normally", what we believe to be normal.
Why? Cos we want to be part of society? Cos we don't really want to stand out too much? Or we don't want to stand out too much for the wrong things. Etc etc... a few reasons.
But really... who really cares?
Ok if we go to work. That's a different matter, cos there are people who care. Your boss cares, when you go and meet clients, they care, there's this perception of "professionalism".
But besides that, usually no one really cares. If I choose to walk out of my house in mismatched top and pants, and wearing different socks and different shoes on each foot. No one would really care. The people I meet would probably think I'm weird, they will ignore me, and we will probably never meet again.
My neighbours would think I'm weird, but they will get used to it, and maybe they may talk to me and we interact as normal people, maybe we won't interact ever. Which is pretty normal, cos... we don't always interact with our neighbours anyway.
My family may think I'm weird, if I go for family gatherings at someone's home, they may think it's strange but I doubt they would uninvite me from the gathering.
They may not want to be seen out with me so that's probably an issue if we go out for events, depending on what I wear.
If I dress up in mismatched clothes, I think life would still be normal, just that some people may give me a second look before going on with their lives. IF I dressed up like the old guy above, then I may have issues going about my daily activities.
So where am I going with this?
Well... in truth, very little people care. We are the main character in our own stories/lives. So we think other people would care. We think everyone's looking at us. Cos to us, we think of ourselves as important beings. We look at the world through our own eyes, through our own minds.
But... WHO really cares? Probably just a handful of people.
So think about this in all other aspects of life. Actually not many people really cares what you do with your life.
If I was a road sweeper, most people wouldn't care. If I was a billionaire, most people also wouldn't care.
Either or... if I'm injured and lying in a hospital, who would really be concerned about me? Probably just my friends and family.
The thing is, in life, we don't really need to impress everybody. There are only a few people who need some special attention. Like... your boss. It's useful to be in the good books of your boss for the time you're working. Colleagues and other professional people you interact with.
But besides that, unless you're a politician, there isn't very many people you need to think about or try too hard to impress.
Long time ago... when I was young... we went to clubs, we may see some pretty girl and want to get her number... But it's normal to be afraid, to be scared of rejection... but in the end. If someone has the courage to ask her, if she gives the number... good. If she doesn't give the number... well, life goes on and probably we'll never see her again. So why paiseh? Paiseh your friend will make fun of you about it? But after a week or 2, they won't even remember the incident.
In another month, no one will remember that incident if you fail. But if you succeed... ;)
In the grand scheme of things, there's only going to be around 80+ years of life... I've learnt that, many people don't matter, the people I meet along the streets, most of my colleagues will disappear after I change jobs, many old classmates will also disappear.
When you really drill down to it... Not many people really care. When you make decisions in life, think about that. Don't think about.. what would my ex-colleagues think of me if I did this... Cos... really, they won't even think of you.
There's not a lot of people important in life. It's important to find out who these important people are to you. Cos each person has different important people. And then dedicate energy and time to these and don't think too much about what other people think...
Cos really... Not many people really care about how you progress in life.
