Cost of each ticket is €2.50.
So we bought some. It's not cheap, but hey, never know when we'll get lucky right!
So we were discussing if we won, how would our lives change.
First, she said she would quit her job for a while and do some travels around the world. First class flights... Personally, I felt that that was a waste of money, cos first class flights are like 3-5x the price of economy tickets. We discussed this and decided that business class flight would do for this period of indulgence. Hey, it's €190m... so I agreed that we would do a round the world trip on biz class just for this initial period.
She wanted to stay in luxury hotels. I agreed that we could afford to stay in better hotels as compared to the budget hotels which we usually stay in during our travels, but we wouldn't be spending on those $1,000 per night suites. Maybe the usual $200-$300 per night, instead of the current $100 per night places we stay at during our current travels.
But she concluded that eventually she will want to go back to work cos she knows she will get bored and she enjoys her current work. We did think whether it would make sense for her to leave her job immediately, cos things seem to be going well for her and it might be better to wait for a while before going on our round the world trip?
We discussed if we would get a bigger place... Or even a landed property? Or a few places around the world? We decided that most likely, we wouldn't do that, cos... well more property means a lot more maintenance costs. There's no real need to buy a big mansion and pay to fill up the place with furniture and renovate the place when we can't "consume" the whole house. We only need a certain amount of space, too big and the place becomes a liability and just incurs cos to upkeep.
We'll likely get a car when we get back to SG. Nothing too fancy. My current preference is a Toyota Camry.
There's a good chance that we would just invest the bulk of the money and maybe set up a trust to fund maybe some causes which we find meaningful.
Probably much of our lives would remain the same. For the first year, we would likely do some travel to places we've always wanted to go but never got down to it.
After that, the intention is to settle back into our current livestyle, but... hey never know what will really happen if the time comes...
The thing is, personally, we aren't really adventurous people, so we don't really want to climb Mt Everest or suddenly take up sky diving. We enjoy our current simple life.
Would I give up freegan living? I doubt it... I mean... think about it. I could easily buy food nowadays. I could buy meat or veges. It's not like we can't afford it. But I don't. Simply cos, I don't need to.
It's actually very interesting. Cos... for me, I get free meat and fruits and veges, and I don't spend, and to me, I think... I don't spend, cos I don't need to.
HOWEVER, other people would turn it the other way around and say... I have money, so I don't take free food, cos I don't need to. Cos I can afford it.
Actually, even now... when I think... what if I put an extra zero at the back of our AUM... would our lives change? And I think my answer is... probably no, cos... I having money doesn't really induce me to spend money. I don't have much pleasure spending. I don't get this dopamine high when I go out and buy things. I know people who like to buy things, just for fun, even though it's a few dollars, they may buy some small toys, or trinkets, or turn the gacha machine. A lot of people just like to spend money, cos they like how it feels to spend... I can never understand this.
Anyway... can't jump to conclusion... Will never know how we might really change IF such a thing ever happened.
How about you? How would your lives change? Do you enjoy living the high life? Do you enjoy buying stuff?
