And I like brewed coffee. You know those that you get at Starbucks. Where the machine grinds the coffee and drips the coffee... Yea I like those kinda coffees best. I find they have a cleaner taste than the Kopitiam kind of coffee.
The next best alternative is capsule coffee. Nespresso or Dolce Gusto.
And of course I never had the heart to buy any of these.
First you have to buy the machine. Capsule coffee machine, at the cheapest, is probably around $100. Then capsules are around $1 per pop.
Or those drip coffees are even more expensive. Machines that grind coffee beans and drip the coffee costs around $700 for an entry level.
So I never thought about buying beans or capsules... What for right?
Then one day, during my early days of dumpster diving, I found Dolce Gusto capsules... Aiyooo jialat liao. How to use them. Cannot be I buy a machine just for these right? And if I buy the machine, I'll need to depreciate it by using it more, so that means buying even more capsules...
Anyway, long story short... I found a Dolce Gusto machine in really good condition. Just sitting at my lift lobby. So I grabbed it, and brought it home and finished using the capsules I found.
Now, I'm hoping that I'll be able to find even more capsules so that I can use it again. At least I don't need to think about depreciating the machine by using it more...
But nothing beats ground coffee beans dripped coffees... and guess what?
Yep, I found one of those too.
So now, I have a machine which I can load coffee beans in and it will grind and drip.
Someone gave me a couple of packs of coffee beans so I now have brewed coffee for a couple of months.
When we went to Perth, I went around Fremantle and they sell coffee beans. So my wife wanted to get a bag of Blue Mountain coffee, which is supposedly pretty good. Not too expensive so we bought a pack.
It's a once off purchase. I'm not going to consistently buy coffee beans to load the machine.
The thing about it is... the journey of freegan-ism really brought me a long way, and in unexpected directions.
I would never have looked at coffee beans. Cos I would never have had a coffee machine to brew them.
I would never have looked at capsules, I still don't, cos they are super expensive.
But now, I have the option of capsule coffee and ground coffee beans.
Which is pretty cool.
I'm just missing a Nespresso machine.
Would I buy coffee beans and capsules regularly? No, definitely not.
I still look for free options.
But at least now, IF I find free beans or capsules, I can now use them and get a better "standard of living".
Free upgrade, why not right?
(For those who play RPG, a better free armour drops in front of you, cannot be you don't pick up right?)
Otherwise, usually my coffee is supplied by those sachets found at the hotels where I stay in during my trips. Not best, but good enough, it's the usual Nescafe Classic in sachets.
So yea... sometimes, all it takes is to keep your/my eyes open, and you never know what you'll be able to find.
